for our disney vacations, we stay at the polynesian resort. it is a family favorite. it is the resort that my mom & i stayed at when i was ben & emilia's age. it is a resort that holds so many wonderful memories for my family.
personally, i love the polynesian because it really feels like i have been whisked away to a hawaiian island or any of the many other islands scattered through the pacific all the while keeping the phenomenal disney touches.
when we set foot on the property & walk through those doors, i literally feel like i am home. when we walked into the polynesian back in january of 2010 for our first family trip to disney, i remembered the smell. it was exactly how i remembered it from my childhood! after some poking around, i found out that the smell in the great ceremonial house has been changed. it changed sometime after our 2010 trip.
i could walk this property all day everyday. it is just so relaxing. i love the evening & nights on the property when the torches are lit. every evening these torches are lit via a ceremony. sadly, we are not usually around the resort when this ceremony occurs!
i love all of the beautiful plants & foliage around the property. it's true to tropical form. beautiful trees & flowers, lush green grasses & gorgeous waterfalls.
another wonderful feature of the polynesian is that instead of being a typcial hotel high rise the rooms are in 2 or 3 story long houses. it doesn't feel so generic and hotel-like. our favorite building to stay in when visiting the polynesian is the tokelau building. the rooms are larger which works well for our family. and it is close to the great ceremonial house as well as a short walk away from the transportation & ticket center.
since this property is on the magic kingdom monorail we are just a quick ride away (2 stops). views of cinderella castle & space mountain can be seen from the property (not all rooms have park views). guests can also see other disney resorts - the grand floridian resort & spa as well as the contemporary resort.
i could sit here and write till i am blue in the face about the polynesian. it's a beautiful resort. even if you never stay there, hop on the monorail or take quick bus ride over & walk the grounds. you won't be disappointed. stop and have a cup of kona coffee while you're there too!
